Mini Book Review - Friday Night Bites

You’d think headlines like that would have provoked the fine citizens of the Windy City to take up arms against us bloodsucking fiends. Instead, ten months later, we’re enjoying a celebrity status reserved for the Hollywood elite—fending off paparazzi only slightly less dangerous than cross and stake-wielding slayers. Don’t get me wrong, Joe Public isn’t exactly thrilled to be living side-by-side with the undead, but at least they haven’t stormed the castle yet.

But all that will change once they learn about the Raves—mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle and drink themselves silly. Most civilized vampires frown on this behavior, putting mere mortals at ease with their policy of asking a person’s consent before taking a big gulp of the red stuff. However, that doesn’t make good copy for a first time reporter looking to impress his high society family.

So now my “master,” the centuries old, yet gorgeously well-preserved Ethan Sullivan, wants me to reconnect with my own upper class family and act as liaison between humans and vampires—and keep the more unsavory aspects of our existence out of the media. But someone doesn’t want people and vamps to play nicey-nice—someone with an ancient grudge.

Book Breakdown

Since I listened to the audiobook for this one, I do want to say a little about it. I love the narrator! She's good at what she does. She's so good that now I can't read this series, I have to listen to it. I tried reading it and it just doesn't feel the same. I love how she embodies Merit so much and she does her sarcasm perfectly. Couldn't ask for a better narrator.

This one picks up not far from when Some Girls Bite ended. Merit is still adjusting and not only that, something is wrong with her. The vampire inside of her wants to take over but she keeps pushing it down along with telling no one what is going on. On top of that, she's still lusting after her creator and master: Ethan Sullivan. Wait! There's more, someone is threatening the younger brother of man she used to date. She needs to figure out who and stop them ASAP. Though her exes family is hiding a huge secret...

This series is so much fun! There is action, humor, sexual tension, and it's lead by a wonderful main character. Merit is smart and strong and yet she's still gentle enough that she doesn't come off as such a hardass. She's got so many wonderful layers and I just love reading about her and following her story. This series keeps getting better and better.
