Who is Carrie? /// The Get to Know Me Tag

I was tagged by a sweetheart known as Fiona over at A Girl Between the Pages. If you aren't following her blog then you should. It's really a wonderful blog and her reviews are some of my favorites.

The Basics

Name: Carrie Scarlett Artrip-Sallie

Nicknames: Cherry, Scar, and Carrie-Berrie (only my little sister is allowed to call me this lol. I've tried to stop her many times but she just doesn't care).

Birthday: 25th of April

Star Sign: Taurus

Occupation: Freelance writer, part time cashier, I'm also taking some Creative Writing classes. I'm also a full time mum. Busy busy!

Looks

Hair Color: Brown but is dyed black.

Hair length: Well not to give too much info but it comes to the top of my chest, so mid length is a good way to describe it.

Eye Color: I have hazel eyes that actually change color depending on two things. What color eye-shadow I'm wearing or my mood.

Best feature: None.

Braces: Sadly no, I wish I had them when I was younger because I have this one teeth that is a wee bit crooked and it drives me insane.

Piercings: Ears and snake bites but I want a few more in the ears and maybe my nose...

Tattoos: None, sadly. I've wanted a few for years but I'm a chicken... I'm not the best with pain.

Right or left handed: Right handed! Though as a kid I could use either, I can't now, I lost that cool ability.

Firsts

Best friend: My very first best friend passed away in February of this year. We were best friends in grade school up until she left in sixth grade, then life took us in different directions and she got into the wrong crowd. Drinking and drugs all the time and it led to her death. Stay away from drugs and drinking!

Award: None that I can think of off the top of my head. So I'm guessing no, haha.

Sport: Volleyball! I used to love to play. Sadly it got to the point where my health wouldn't allow me to play. Still won't.

Real holiday: My family went to Disney World one year during Christmas break and it was so amazing. My family was so happy and together and that was so very rare. My family never really got along very well but for this two weeks, they did. Some of the best times then.

Concert: My first real concert was in NY, also the first time I got to go to NY and it was amazing! I saw SMTOWN (my favorites were SNSD, BoA, and SHINee), I will never forget it.

Favorites

Film: Ever After, the one from 1997, with Drew Barrymore.

TV Show: Attack on Titan, Vampire Knight, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The 100, Dollhouse, Game of Thrones, and more I'm sure I'm missing on the top of my head.

Color: Aqua or black

Song: Way too many to even name.

Restaurant: Olive Garden or Cracker Barrel.

Shop: Any book store. I can spend hours there and it drives my partner insane haha. As for clothing stores.... Hot Topic or Spencer's. Most of my clothes come from Goodwill as I can find my style without paying an arm and a leg or it.

Books: A Court of Thorns and Roses, Blue Bloods, Throne of Glass, White Hot Kiss.... I really could go on for a long time on this one haha.

Shoes: Converse or what my mother likes to call 'hooker boots'.

Currently
Feeling: Nervous, lots of things have happened recently and I just... or maybe tired.

Single or Taken: Taken by the most perfect man. If you read this honey, I love you.

Eating: Dove Chocolate. The best chocolate I have ever eaten.

Thinking About: Blog posts and how behind I am on answering comments! I will answer them I swear!

Watching: The Walking Dead.

Wearing: Black wash jeans with a dark red shirt.

Future

Children: I already have a little girl and maybe far into the future, I would a little boy. But two is more than enough for me.

Marriage: Currently, I am engaged. We are planing our wedding though and hope it.

Careers: I want to be a New York Times Best Selling Author. It's what I've always dreamed of. I've loved writing since sixth grade. It's still my passion besides reading.

Where You Want to Live: Somewhere cold. Like Boston or London. Though part of me will always want to go back to my hometown of Nashville though it's just too hot there and too much bad weather.

Do You Believe In....

God: Yes but I will leave that there.

Miracles: Yes, my daughter is living proof of that as am I.

Love at First Sight: Nope. There is no such thing. I don't care what anyone says. There is lust at first sight but true love builds over time. That's also why I hate insta-love.

Ghosts: Nah, there aren't real.

Aliens: Nope.

Soulmate: I want to say yes.

Heaven/Hell: Not really sure.

Kissing on the first date: I'm old fashioned so no, kissing on the first date isn't good. Plus, in my experience it makes men think you're open to doing other things.

Yourself: I like to think I do.

Manga Monday (6) - Death Note Volume 1 & Music Monday (3)

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami, a death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life?

Boredom
Light tests the boundaries of the Death Note's powers as L and the police begin to close in. Luckily Light's father is the head of the Japanese National Police Agency and leaves vital information about the case lying around the house. With access to his father's files, Light can keep one step ahead of the authorities. But who is the strange man following him, and how can Light guard against enemies whose names he doesn't know?

Manga Breakdown

Light is a genius student who longs to be a police officer like his father. Life has gotten boring for him and out of nowhere a black notebook falls from the sky right into the school yard. It catches his eye and naturally he goes to check it out after class. It's a Death Note. He thinks it's some kind of joke.... but is it?

“The name of the human who is written in this note shall die.”

After thinking about it long and hard as well as reading all the rules, he uses the Death Note. It's less than a week when Ryuk -a shinigami- appears to Light explaining it's his notebook but once Light claimed it, it now belongs to the human who got it till they die.

The more Light uses it the more the world catches on, even nicknaming him Kira - meaning killer. Light promises to only kill those who deserve to die but since when does he have the right to choose that? So in enters L, the world's greatest detective, who wants to stop Kira from murdering people. Light thinks he's helping the world, making it a good place to live where he will one day rule it like a God.

“Start looking around you... and all you see are people the world would be better off without.”

Things turn bad for Light though when L pulls a stunt and finds out that Kira lives in Japan. Light's not too worried as his father is chief of police and he can hack into their database and get their info. He's more worried about hiding the Death Note so no one ever finds it. If his family were to find and touch it... he'd have to kill them.

Meanwhile, almost every NPA member quits, too fearful of Kira. L is fine with this though and even thought so much that it would happen. Light finds out that he's now being followed by a strange man and pulls a huge scheme to get the man's name. Light must have a name and face to kill with the Death Note. This is when Ryuk tells Light about the eyes. If Light had them, all he'd have to do is simply look at the man and he'd see his name. The only thing, it would cost half of Light's remaining lifespan, Light says no. Wanting to live a long life as God of the world he is making.

“I AM RIGHTEOUS!! I'm the hero who's liberating people from fear. I'm the savior who's going to be like a god of this perfect new world!”

This volume ends with everything going Light's way, even getting the name of the FBI agent who was following him. There is no way any of this can come back to bite him in the ass..... right? Read volume two to find out!

“Exactly as planned!”

This is one of my favorite manga and anime. I remember find it back in 2009 and I saw in love. I looked up everything, I even owned the live action Japanese movies. If you seriously haven't read this manga or seen the anime. You need too! It's do different from anything else I've ever seen. A masterpiece!

Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren over at Always Me. The point of this meme is every Monday you share two of your favorite songs from the past week. So here are the songs I've been listening to this week.

I've been reading City of Ashes and I love this song, it fits so nicely with the book. Probably because it was actually written about the series. I love it, this song moves me. That sounds stupid but it does.

This is such a cute song. I am so glad SM released an English version. It's so nice. It's just a fun simply song about dancing. Which is actually kind of funny that Tiffany is singing it as she isn't the dancer of the group haha.

The Crown - Review/Rant

When Eadlyn became the first princess of IllĂ©a to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.

Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.

Book Breakdown
*SPOILER ALERT*

The final book in The Selection series is here and it's better than The Heir. Though that isn't saying much. Eadlyn isn't as much of a brat though to me, she still has her moments. My biggest issues with this book is how every problem is handled so quickly and easily. I mean they get so worked up over these problems that they solve in a fast and painless manor. The book feels so unrealistic to me. Maxon stepping down so Eadlyn can rule... I mean really? When would that ever happen? When has any king just stepped down for the next ruler? Some kings went so far to rule longer that they try and kill their kids to stop this from happening!

It's been a while since I read the other three books but did Maxon ever mention having a sister in those books? Because if not that also came out of nowhere. Let me know below if it did mention a half sister.

Anyway, it was so painfully plain who she was going to choose. Even from the very start. Which didn't bother me, I still liked someone else better (Kile) and wish he had won instead. What I hated though was Henry, well his reaction really. Would you not be... I don't know, pissed? The girl you like loves your employee instead! Even though she said she was choosing you! Nope, he just smiled and was happy for them.

Okay I want this to be known before I go any further at all, I have nothing against the LGBT community at all. As a matter of fact I am bi-sexual so I am a part of it. I just can't help but feel though that the whole thing with Fox and Hale was thrown in there just to appeal to that community. I never saw anything between the lines that said Hale would end up the way he did (though they're cute as be). Nevertheless, it's not a big deal as we need more diversity in books, I just felt it was thrown in to also help Eadlyn choose faster. Just something to speed everything up. I wish that the author would have pulled that move sooner or something and not just right out of the blue like that. Too Convenient.

The biggest thing she had to deal with in this book was a silly little nobody who wanted to be king, but she crushed him with so little effort that I didn't feel elated when she won. It was just like 'whatever'. This didn't make me laugh or smile like the first three did. I hate to rag on this book because there are a lot of improvements from The Heir but it still doesn't feel like a proper ending.

I'm going to pretend that The Hair and The Crown doesn't exist, The One was a better ending to the series. I hate it because I truly love The Selection, The Elite, and The One. They are cute, funny, and down right adorable books but these last two... just not for me.

By now I'm sure you lovely little doves know that I usually listen to music while I read and this book was no different. If you'd like to know what music I listened to while reading The Crown, just head over to my Instagram account and see!

Discussion Challenge #2 (Books I've Read & Didn't Like)

So this idea actually came from the link up page for the Discussion Challenge. I know this will be a very controversial post but sometimes I like to stir up trouble. Also, I do just want to say that any of the books I mention, just because I don't like them, doesn't mean they are bad books, everyone has different tastes. One of the books I name maybe your favorite read and that's fantastic! It takes all kinds to make the world go around.

This one I almost didn't even finish. It hard to get through, I just didn't like the main character and her love intrest was rather flat and boring to me. I hate that I didn't love this book as the cover is stunning! It is a very short read so maybe that's why I finished it but sadly it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I don't think this is a bad book it just wasn't great and I have no desire to even pick up the next one. Nothing to me felt original, it all was been there, done that. I saw the big twist coming from a mile away and I didn't really even like Mare... sorry if this one breaks your heart but just not my thing.

This book is only one thing, a cash grab from when the TV show was doing good. I've heard that L.J. Smith didn't even write these, they were ghost written or something (don't quote me on that. Like I said it was just something I've heard). These feel nothing the original ones that stole my heart and got me not only into YA books but vampires as well.

I don't remember what book it was but I used to love these books, I got into the series when only the first four were out and I devoured them in less than two days but I got older and more came out and then I tried to get back into the series only to find it was very immature. I didn't have the love for it anymore. Too bad they weren't all out when I was in love with it.

This series started off good but the more I got into it, it grew boring and it was so white washed to me. I lost interest. Though I love Secret Vampire and now after talking about this series, I want to read that one again. Just that one.

I really liked the first two in this series when I read it but this one.... no. I don't know why but I just didn't enjoy it at all.

This.... I just.... no words.

So what about you sunflowers? Are there any books you've read that are popular and didn't like? Or not even a popular one, just a book in general you didn't like? Let me know what the book is and why below.

6 Reasons I'd be a Great Heroine

This is actually rather sad as I sat down to do this I got to thinking that I could name so many more reasons I'd be an awful heroine! But I like to be positive so I will just do this topic. Though I am planning to do the other. So be on the lookout for that one. It's going to be pretty funny.

1) I'm not afraid to stand up for what's right. I'm also not scared if the right side happens to be the side with the least chance of winning. In short terms, I'm brave.

2) I've very resourceful. I've come up with some weird things that just happened to work. How? I don't even know.

3) I am pretty good with a very weapons, my father taught me how to use a bow and arrow and recently I've been going to shooting ranges and learning to use a gun, (got to prepare for the zombie apocalypse right?)

4) I'm very stubborn, I don't like giving up or giving in. No matter the cost to myself.

5) I'm a very good leader, back in grade school or high school I was always chosen to lead the class project or be the one to give the speeches. I was even class President for 8th, 10th, and 11th grade, (there wasn't many options as I went to a private school).

So yeah this are the few reasons that I think I could be a pretty nifty heroine. Though I still wouldn't really be a good one as like I said before I have way more to add to the other list. Sad but true. I'm just not that good of a heroine.

So what about you butterflies? What great heroine qualities do you possess? Let me know below!

Music Monday (2)

Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren over at Always Me. The point of this meme is every Monday you share two of your favorite songs from the past week. So here are the songs I've been listening to this week.

I've been listening to a lot of music this past week. Why you might ask? Well, we were fixing up this cute little home we were going to rent. We painted the living room, master bedroom, our daughter's bedroom and part of the guest bedroom. We had yet to get the kitchen when we found out some really bad things about the house that the landlord never told us. Lots of problems actually. So after spending three days cleaning and painting, I had to call the landlord and tell them no. We weren't moving into a place like that and that they should have told us the problems before we even started all this.

So we lost the deposit ($1,000) but got the first months rent back. Yeah... I was so upset! We finally found a cute place we liked and could afford but then that crap happened. Ugh, just ugh. So anyway, while I was painting the house, I listened to a lot of music and even a short audio book (though that's a different story). So here are two that I listened to so much it drove my partner crazy haha.

I found this song a few months ago and I just love it. I love the blend of Japanese and English, it's so cool. I also love their style of music. Hard hitting beats with pretty vocals. Yep, my kind of music.

I really like the beat to this one. It makes me want to get up and dance which was good for painting as it gave me a boost of energy.

So what songs did you listen to a lot this past week? Let me know below.

The Prompt
Ten Reasons You Love Your Fave Genre

Answer
So in order to answer this question, I have to have a favorite genre. Which I could never chose. I like two so much that I tried to choose between them and failed every single time. But I can name ten reasons why I love my two favorite genres. I will do five for fantasy and five for paranormal.

Fantasy

1) You can create your own world.

2) If you create your own world, you make the rules.

3) Unicorns. Yes, I'm putting that right here.

4) The plot's are almost always amazing!

5) The character development is usually fantastic.

Paranormal

1) Vampires are my weakness.

2) The romance in supernatural/paranormal books is just so much better.

3) Fairies are just so wicked.

4) In paranormal I have found that there is more alternative/goth characters and to me that is so cool as I am heavy into that subculture.

5) Have I mentioned how much I just adore vampires? No? Then I simply adore vampires.

So what are the reasons you love your favorite genre? Let me know below butterflies. Hope you have a great weekend!

Waiting on Wednesday (#23)

This weekly meme is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

Expected Release Date: October 18, 2016

I fell in love with the first book, and I don't usually go for sci-fi but this just blew me away! It was just completely awesome! So of course I'd be waiting for the sequel! Do you know what I'm talking about it yet? Let me give you another hint.

Blurb

The highly anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller that critics are calling “out-of-this-world awesome.”

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.
Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They've totally got this. They hope.
Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

Top Ten Tuesday (#3)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is ten books I picked up on a whim. I used to do this all the time. I still do sometimes but most of the time I usually check out books that have gotten great reviews from my fellow bloggers. They haven't let me down yet. I love you guys. But I will go with books I book on a whim, because even though I still have these books and want to read them, I haven't read them all yet. So many wonderful books and so little time. I know you butterflies totally understand that!

Music Monday (#1)

Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren over at Always Me. The point of this meme is every Monday you share two of your favorite songs from the past week. So here are the songs I've been listening to like crazy!

I am not really sure why I love this song so much but it just connects with me.

This song hasn't been out long but ever since I heard it, a masterpiece! It's K-Pop and if you know me well enough you know I love the old Girls' Generation. Where all nine members were together. I also love Jessica from SNSD and this is her solo! The song is so sweet and uplifting and the beat is cute and catchy and it's so nice to see her in music again. I've missed her stunning voice for so long! I'm going to be listening to this song until my partner can't take it anymore. Sadly it won't let me upload the whole video so here is the teaser!

L.A. Candy - Review

Los Angeles is all about the sweet life: hot clubs, cute guys, designer...everything. Nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts can't wait to start living it up. She may be in L.A. for an internship, but Jane plans to play as hard as she works, and has enlisted her BFF Scarlett to join in the fun.

When Jane and Scarlett are approached by a producer who wants them to be on his new series, a "reality version of Sex and the City," they can hardly believe their luck. Their own show? Yes, please!

Soon Jane is TV's hottest star. Fame brings more than she ever imagined possible for a girl from Santa Barbara-free designer clothes, the choicest tables at the most exclusive clubs, invites to Hollywood premieres-and she's lapping up the VIP treatment with her eclectic entourage of new pals. But those same friends who are always up for a wild night are also out for a piece of Jane's spotlight.

In a city filled with people chasing after their dreams, it's not long before Jane wakes up to the reality that everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it seems to be.

Book Breakdown

This is is not very good but for some reason I kind of enjoyed it. It's going to be one of my super guilty pleasures. I mean Jane is too nice, to the point that she is stupid and blind. She gets into situations that if she just sat back and thought clearly wouldn't do. Maybe she is just so naive to how the world works, I don't know.

My favorite is Scarlett, I think she is a much better character, with a better level head on her shoulders. The author who wrote this was on that show, The Hills and it seems like she is just turning her experience on there into a book and not a very good book. There are no twists and turns, I saw everything coming from a mile away. Madison was a bitch from the start and it was just so easy to see that again, Jane just seems stupid.

The whole plot is Scarlett and Jane move to L.A. to start their life and they get discovered by a TV producer and then that TV show messes with their lives and Scarlett wants out but Jane likes it. Drama unfolds, romance, cat fights, bitches, and drinking.

So there really isn't much to say about this book, the writing is fine, nothing special but it's easy to follow. Most of the characters are pretty one dimensional and/or petty. There are no surprises in this book, everything is just easy to spot. So do I recommend this book? Nope. Unless you're like me and for some reason that I can't even fathom like this book.

Favorite Quotes

1) “The only way to belong is to act like you belong. Or to not give a shit whether you belong or not.”

2) “Love...who needed love? As long as she had her books and her friends and an occasional hookup, she was perfectly content.”

Waiting on Wednesday (#22)

So by now I'm sure pretty much every blogger as heard of Waiting on Wednesday but just in case, it's a weekly meme hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

Expected Publication: January 10, 2017

This is from the same author as the Splintered series which I might add is freaking amazing! The blurb for this one pulls me right in. I can't wait till next year to get my hands on it!

Blurb

This YA novel from New York Times bestselling author A. G. Howard marks the beginning of a new era for fans of the Splintered series. Rune Germain moves to a boarding school outside of Paris, only to discover that at this opera-house-turned-music-conservatory, phantoms really do exist. RoseBlood is a Phantom of the Opera–inspired retelling in which Rune’s biggest talent—her voice—is also her biggest curse. Fans of Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the Splintered series will find themselves captivated by this pulse-pounding spin on a classic tale.

Rune, whose voice has been compared to that of an angel, has a mysterious affliction linked to her talent that leaves her sick and drained at the end of every performance. Convinced creative direction will cure her, her mother ships her off to a French boarding school for the arts, rumored to have a haunted past.

Shortly after arriving at RoseBlood conservatory, Rune starts to believe something otherworldly is indeed afoot. The mystery boy she’s seen frequenting the graveyard beside the opera house doesn’t have any classes at the school, and vanishes almost as quickly as he appears. When Rune begins to develop a secret friendship with the elusive Thorn, who dresses in clothing straight out of the 19th century, she realizes that in his presence she feels cured. Thorn may be falling for Rune, but the phantom haunting RoseBlood wants her for a very specific and dangerous purpose. As their love continues to grow, Thorn is faced with an impossible choice: lead Rune to her destruction, or save her and face the wrath of the phantom, the only father he’s ever known.

A. G. Howard brings the romantic storytelling that Splintered fans adore to France—and an entirely new world filled with lavish romance and intrigue—in a retelling inspired by a story that has captivated generations. Fans of both the Phantom of the Opera musical and novel, as well as YA retellings such as Marissa Meyer’s Cinder, will devour RoseBlood.

Top Ten Tuesday (Epic Fail)

A weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Ten Websites I Love That Aren't About Books

This is such a hard decision as pretty much every website I visit is about books in some way or fashion.... yeah I've got a problem and I don't care. So here is the websites I could come up with that I visit that has nothing to do with books. I hope you guys enjoy my epic fail at trying to come up with websites. I didn't do well at all.

1) Netflix
I watch tons of shows on here as does anyone else these days.

2) Hulu
Where I watch more TV shows...

3) Google
Because pretty much everyone uses Google lol

I'm seriously running out of websites... I mean there are ones like Twitter and such but I use that for bookish things.... Oh! Wait! I have a few more!

4) Youtube
Where I watch booktubers and other things that aren't bookish.... see told you I'd suck at this lol

5) Pandora
I only really use this at work.... but it counts! I'm so counting it!

6) Spotify
I really love my music though now I usually just use Apple Music, it's easier for me and they have more, like Taylor Swift.

7) Etsy
I love this site! You can find so many cute things! Just wonderful!

8) live.com
I visit my email website a lot to check for new messages and stuff. My sister and are write back and forth a lot.

9) yesasia.com
I use this place to get a lot of my K-Pop stuff. Did you know that Jessica is having a comeback? Yeah I'm completely excited and I really hope she creams Tiffany.

April Wrap Up!

So I didn't get to read a lot during April because lot of things were going on, we were planning to move but that fell through so sadly I am stuck out here in a place I really don't like. Though something cool happened, my local library is hiring! I applied as soon as I saw it! So cross your fingers that I get that job because that would be a dream job and so much better than the one I have now.

Anyway like I was saying before I totally went off the topic, I read only 6 books in April, though three of them weren't really books, just short stories so I read three books... yeah. Sad. But I have already read 3 books this month as of the writing of this post (May 8th), so I'm off to a really good start! How many books did you read last month? Any really good ones? Let me know below.

Prompt
Favorite Genres in Books

My Answer

So my favorite genres are pretty simple. These are in not in order as I could not choose an order. That would be too hard. Also let it be known that I only read YA with NA where I can get my hands on it. Few adult novels ever catch my attention.

1) Fantasy

2) Paranormal

3) Romance

4) Dystopian

Those are my favorites but I do read more in other genres naturally. So what are your favorites? Let me know or link your FF below.

Faithfully Shattered - Review

When a car accident takes the lives of her parents and spares her, Adalyn Weaver is devastated, depressed and wanting nothing more than to join her parents. Just as she’s on the brink of letting everything go Luca Brooks shows up taking an interest in Adalyn and making it his mission to help her heal. Just as Adalyn begins to get her life on track her house is ransacked by a group of people looking for her father’s research regarding a secret project he was working on just before he died and they’re willing to kill for it. Adalyn finds out that the death of her parents may have not been an accident at all and Luca may be the key to what happened that night but the truth may destroy them both.

Book Breakdown

Adalyn Weaver has lost her parents and the will to live really. She wants nothing more than to join her family. She even tried once to join them but then Luca shows up. He helps her heal, though there is some serious stuff going on that she knows nothing about. This books builds slowly, but that's actually a good thing because we actually get to know the characters and by the time the really good stuff kicks in we can just enjoy the ride.

Adalyn to me, doesn't start out as a very strong character but I think she really develops through this novel and that is something I love to see! Character building. And The author here does a great job with her. I also really like the lycan aspect of this book. I wasn't expecting it at all! A wonderful surprise!

There is a few minor editing issues but they are easily over looked as they are minor I take no stars away for that. There is a cliffhanger though so he prepared for that! You're going to love this book!

Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy & The Lost Herondale (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #1-2) - Mini Review

Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy: After living as a Mundane and a Vampire, Simon never thought
he would become a Shadowhunter, but today he begins his training at Shadowhunter Academy.

The Lost Herondale: Simon learns the worst crime a Shadowhunter can commit: desertion of their comrades. In the early nineteenth century, Tobias Herondale abandoned his fellow Shadowhunters in the heat of battle and left them to die. His life was forfeit, but Tobias never returned, and the Clave claimed his wife’s life in exchange for Tobias’s. Simon and his fellow students are shocked to learn of this brutality, especially when it is revealed the woman was pregnant. But what if the child survived... could there be a lost Herondale line out in the world today?

Mini Breakdown

So I know this is supposed to introduce us to this Simon and also the Shadowhunter Academy and it did just that but this short story on it's own was a little boring, I know it will get better but this one alone wasn't as great as I wanted it to be. There was a lot of funny moments that I loved and then Simon sticking up for the humans at the academy was simply perfect but not much else happened besides Simon being sad because he can't remember who he was before and his friends being sad for the same reason... just yeah.

The second one is better I think, though I still wish these stories were just released as one book and not these short stories it would fully and make for a better review, these on their own aren't all that great but I know when I get to read them all that the end product will be epic, it's just hard to judge these as they are, they feel incomplete to me just as short stories.

I like that Izzy still hasn't given up on Simon, I hope he does get his memories back and they are happy together because they are freaking cute! I just wonder what is going to come of the lost Herondale line, will more from that bloodline be found? Or was it just to teach Simon a lesson? That's really what all of these stories are, Simon being taught little lessons in each part, kind of like one of those old 90's TV shows. None the less, I do like these, I just personally think they are nowhere near as great as TMI or TID

Favorite Quotes

1) “Every decision you make, makes you. Never let other people choose who you’re going to be.”

2) “Like all Herondales, his ability to love without measure, without end, was both his great gift and his great curse.”

3) “Well, I'm a Lovelace. My family quit Shadowhunting due to laziness in the 1700s.”

4) “If you want to tell me. You don’t have to. We all have secrets.”“I chased away the most amazing girl I have ever met, because I’m too much of a loser to manage being myself. That’s my secret: I want to be a hero, but I’m not one. Everybody thinks I’m some amazing warrior who summoned angels and rescued Shadowhunters and saved the world, but it’s a joke. I can’t even remember what I did. I can’t imagine how I did it. I’m no one special, and no one’s going to be fooled for long, and I don’t even know what I’m doing here. So. You have a secret that can beat that?”
