Least Favorite
DANICA SHARDAE IS an avian shapeshifter, and the golden hawk’s form in which she takes to the sky is as natural to her as the human one that graces her on land. The only thing more familiar to her is war: It has raged between her people and the serpiente for so long, no one can remember how the fighting began. As heir to the avian throne, she’ll do anything in her power to stop this war—even accept Zane Cobriana, the terrifying leader of her kind’s greatest enemy, as her pair bond and make the two royal families one.

Trust. It is all Zane asks of Danica—and all they ask of their people—but it may be more than she can give.
I read this years ago and something about just wasn't for me. There's nothing wrong with it, just not my cup of tea.

Favorite
About three things I was absolutely positive.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him—and I didn't know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

In the first book of the Twilight Saga, internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer introduces Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose forbidden relationship ripens against the backdrop of small-town suspicion and a mysterious coven of vampires. This is a love story with bite.
I've gone back and forth so much with this book, when my friend first told me about them, I hated the idea, vampires that sparkled and had no fangs?! No thanks! But I ran out of things to read and they were on sale at Wal-Mart, I got my parents to buy them for me and read them all within three days. I was hooked, I even cried when the story was over because they were nothing else left to read. It was heartbreaking.

But I've gone through times where I kind of don't like this series as much and then I love it again. Right now, I'm loving this series, the movies are helping me through NaNoWriMo this month.

Never Touched Blitz + Giveaway!

Never Touched
Laney Wylde
Published by: Crimson Tree Publishing
Publication date: November 12th 2018
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
What if you woke up from your worst nightmare, only to find the world watching it? On repeat. With relish.

What if those viewers found you? Cornered you until you performed the nightmare live?

Would you run? Fight?

Or charge admittance?

This is Sawyer’s reality. She’s a survivor—gritty and determined—but the struggle to put it all behind her is something that’s with her every second of every day. Her abuser is in jail now, but he’ll never truly let her go. When she tries to shelter in something good, the darkness inevitably follows. The effects of the abuse flow through her life like ripples of pain in this raw, at times darkly comedic, coming-of-age saga that explores what it means to survive the unthinkable—and find the courage to rise up and keep fighting.

Sure to satisfy fans of SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and 13 REASONS WHY, Never Touched is a New Adult contemporary drama by breakout author Laney Wylde. Richly written with complex characters and a compelling storyline, it’s perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover’s HOPELESS, Rebecca Donovan’s REASON TO BREATHE, and Jessica Sorensen’s THE COINCIDENCE OF CALLIE & KAYDEN.

Please Note: Story contains graphic sexual content, including mentions of abuse. Strong language throughout.

EXCERPT:

He shook his head. “You’re an idiot.”

I pushed his arm off my thighs. “You’re an ass.”

“Yep,” he said with a nod. I pressed my lips together to keep from smiling at the pride he found in his flawed personality. Wrapping his arms around his bent knees, he stared at me, like he was gathering information for his next move. I held my ground—no smiling—though barely. After a long minute, he finally said, “You’re cold.”

I glanced down at my hands, which were a pale shade of violet and reflexively quivering against each other to get warm. My body flinched when Jake took them between his, pressing them together and then making a hollow between his palms. He brought our hands to his lips and exhaled softly into the space between his thumbs, creating a small cave of warmth for my fingers. I swallowed past my suddenly dry throat at the cozy shivers racing up my arms.

Jake’s dark eyes raised to mine, making me suddenly aware of the terror that was probably plain on my face. Parted lips, wide eyes, and my breath that had halted some time ago. Why was he touching me? What did he want from me?

Why did I feel good when he touched me?

It wasn’t supposed to feel good, right? I shouldn’t like the feel of his skin on mine. Men only touched to hurt. I shouldn’t want that.

But when he said, “You might be warmer if we sat together,” I nodded and stood, moving so he could take my chair, so I could curl up in his lap.

Huddling my arms against my chest, I rested my head on his shoulder. My eyes shut cautiously so I could take in the scent of his skin. He wrapped his coat over my back before relaxing his cheek into my hair. I kept my eyes closed, half from fear, half from the desperate need to feel what it was like to just be held.

I had felt nothing like it before.

Author Bio:

Laney Wylde is enamored with all things southern California--the traffic, smog, surprise earthquakes, and nonindigenous palm trees. Consequently, it's the landscape her strong and sometimes lovable female leads paint their stories on. Her New Adult novels Never Touched and the After Twelve series are bright with provocative themes, steamy romance, and inappropriately timed humor.

When Laney isn't writing, she's singing Taylor Swift with her little boy or asking her husband not to tell her about his work as a surgical resident while she's eating. She daydreams about using her math degree to get into law school, then realizes that would be too much work and that she should just play pretend court on paper instead. While she loves a good book, nothing beats 30 Rock with a bag of popcorn and M&Ms.

Mini Book Breakdown

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review*

So let's say you're getting into witchcraft and how have no idea how to set up an Altar, well, this book is for you! Not only does it go over altars but it also gives a little bit more in depth about altars. Some of the altars in here I'd never even heard of! Like Digital ones, a dashboard alter. Very creative and fitting for those that are more modern in their craft.

The writing is direct and easy to understand, the authors never once talk down to the reader but always like they just talking to you. I love when authors do that, makes the book read so much better.

If you are looking for a new type of alter, this is also a good book, they talk about Voodoo alters and even their own, which I thought was a great personal touch. So really, this book has just about everything you need to know about alters, even a blessing ritual. I love that these two very different voices were able to make sure a great book, I can't wait to add this to my bookshelf for reference.

The Boss (Volume 1) - Review

"The hot and heavy story of Aria and Zayden. One of best romance books I've read this year." - Extremely Hot Romance Books

My name is Aria and I'm just a normal girl. I go to college and work as a bank teller. My only problem is that my mother has racked up sixty thousand dollars worth of medical bills. She doesn't have a job so any extra money I make goes to her bills. When my boss, Zayden, gives me a proposition that if I agree to be his girlfriend for six months then he'll give me the money for my mom's bills I can't turn him down. The only problem is that he wants me to be more than just his girlfriend. Will I be able to stop his seduction?

Book Breakdown

This is a very short read, I didn't even know how short as I saw it on one of those free kindle book emails I get everyday. It sounded pretty good, I've been reading lots of romance lately. But that cliff hanger had me nearly throwing my kindle into the wall in rage. I don't mind cliff hangers, I'm not that bitchy but this one.... no! You don't just end after THAT. I've come to see that these kind of books are the ones where the beginning is aways free and then the rest of the series is all paid but I'm not going to pay $.99 cents just for more cliff hangers.

I did enjoy what story I did get, I just kept hoping they'd get together. There are feminist talking points, so if that's something you like or hate, now you know either way. There is also a few minor errors that me rereading like two sentences to figure out what just happened. But it's free and where I used to read fan-faction back in the day, it's not much and shouldn't really be a problem for the reader.

Overall, I will not be continuing with this series. It just wasn't for me.

Slave to Sensation - Mini Book Breakdown

Nalini Singh dives into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind-and none of the heart.

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of "rehabilitation" - the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was...

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion - and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities - or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

Mini Book Breakdown

Sascha is a Psy, which values being emotionless but Sascha is broken, she feels everything and she's been hiding it for years but things start to tumble out of control when she meets Lucus, a sexy changeling but he's got a reason for trying to seduce our fair Psy and an all out war between their people is one of the biggest.

I've been trying to find good paranormal (mainly shifter) romances and stumbled upon this, so I gave it a shot, and I loved it! I could not put it down! I read it so fast that I was left feeling sad that is was over. The character development is wonderful, the romance is perfectly sexy and steamy without just being sexy with very little plot.

Honestly, I hate that I didn't know this series was a thing sooner, now I'm going to play catch up because it's worth it!

Cursed Rebel - Review

Never trust a pretty face. My grandma taught me that. She warned me about the Fair Folk but I never believed her...until I was kidnapped by one. And damn, he is pretty.
But Fin was sent to bring me to his King, and if I want to survive the Otherworld, I have no choice but to trust him - for now.
Oh, and did I mention my sexy best friend is hunting me? I should've listened to Gran.

Mini Book Breakdown

All her life, Lucy had been told that the Fae her bad, evil and she should stay away from them. All that changes when Fin shows up and kidnaps her, taking her to the land of the Fae...

This is the first thing I've by this author and let me say, it won't be the last. I really liked the world building and the characters. Fin especially was great. I do think it should've been longer, the end just felt off to me. I think expanding on this novel would be amazing, it's pretty short anyway, I read it all in one afternoon.

I liked the flow of the writing once we got a few chapters in, it was action packed and never boring but the beginning was very rushed, like the author was just wanting to get to all the good parts. My favorite part was the romance, I thought it was well done and I wanted more of them. Honestly, I just wanted more of this story.

If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read this book for free!

The Haunting of Hill House - Netflix Review

I've been watching more movies and TV shows lately, because I've been editing my novel and stuck on this novel that I want to finish reading but I'm not enjoying it, I've been pushing myself through it.

So anyway, since my blog is kind of.... sparse as of late, why not talk about these amazing stories that I've been watching? Plus, it's October, what better for a horror series?

Here we go.... follow me into the Hill House.

Code Wolf - ARC Review (Paranormal Romance)

When Seattle detective and alpha werewolf Derek Miller meets Riley Price, the bond is instant. Feral. Their connection entails enormous risk, for he must keep the existence of his kind secret at all costs. But the forces of darkness have Riley in their sights. Now Derek must choose between the Were code of silence and saving the woman who’s set him on fire.

Mini Book Review

Riley is your normal woman but one night she's nearly attacked only be saved by Derek. A cop but also an Alpha werewolf. He and a few of his friends keep the streets safe but when he saves Riley.... everything changes, there is something about her that he's drawn to.

I'm in love with Derek. He's a great leading man for sure and Riley is perfect for him! This story kept me flipping pages way past my bedtime, the formatting was a little weird but it's an ARC and I'm sure it will be fixed, so no worries there.

Overall, this is a great paranormal romance that has lots of action and steam but also some great character development.

Mini Book Breakdown

I have loved every other single book in this series that I've read, this one... it put me to sleep every time I opened it to read. I did end up finishing it because it was an ARC and I push through ARCs if I can. It contains good information in here about lives between lives and a little about what happens after we die while waiting to be reborn but it's the way it's told I guess that just made it so boring.

I really hate to say this because I enjoy this topic but wasn't written in a way that pulled me in.

Dynasty Season 2 Episode 1 - Review/Recap

When it comes to TV shows, I've noticed that I usually like ones that aren't that good in the ratings... like Witches of East End, Shadowhunters, and now, Dynasty.

If you don't know anything about this show, it started out in the 1980's as a daytime soap opera but it ended in 1989. This is the modern take on it. It follows the Carrington family through all their drama, not only family drama but they own a huge oil business so there is work drama too.

A Discovery of Witches Episode 1 Review

This show is based on the wildly popular book series by  of the same name. So if you don't know anything about this series, it focuses on Diana Bishop, a which from a very powerful line of witches (yes, that line) but she wants nothing to do with witchcraft. Then there is Matthew Clairmont... the vampire with lots of secrets. They end up meeting over a book that only Diana can open and things just spiral from there... in between tea times and all that wine they drink of course.

ARC Review - Pisces Hooks Taurus (Signs of Love #4)

It’s a time for searching, and a time for finding, Pisces: keep casting your line and you will hook what you’re looking for.

Zane has it all planned out: land the perfect Meet Cute, fall in love, and live happily ever after.
Should be simple enough if he put his mind to it. A little creativity and some thinking outside of the box, and voila, he’d be married to the woman of his dreams.
It would be perfect.
And it would be before his visa ran out.

But why are his feelings running wild now that the pressure’s on? Why is his picture-perfect plan turning into a muddled mess of morphed metaphors he can’t make sense of anymore?

Just as well he’s met an English professor to help. And even though their first meet is anything but cute, this down-to-earth teacher may just be the realist Zane needs to ground him and give him a shot at love after all.

Don’t cast your line too wide, Pisces. Your perfect catch may already have bitten.

As far as I know there is no other tag like this out there. I've looked into a bit and didn't find anything. I actually came up with this idea after watching one of my favorite movies. Then when I went to work after I had a lot of time to think and that's how this idea was born! So here we go!

Waiting on Wednesday - Kingdom of Ash

So if you've been here for a while you'll know that I'm a Sarah J Maas super-fan, I loved both her series to death! Well.... until Catwoman, I'd loved every book she'd put out. I'm hoping that was a one time thing and this series continues like her other books and doesn't move towards the way of Catwoman.

Expected publication: October 23rd 2018

Years in the making, Sarah J. Maas’s #1 New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series draws to an epic, unforgettable conclusion. Aelin Galathynius’s journey from slave to king’s assassin to the queen of a once-great kingdom reaches its heart-rending finale as war erupts across her world. . .

Aelin has risked everything to save her people―but at a tremendous cost. Locked within an iron coffin by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin must draw upon her fiery will as she endures months of torture. Aware that yielding to Maeve will doom those she loves keeps her from breaking, though her resolve begins to unravel with each passing day…

With Aelin captured, Aedion and Lysandra remain the last line of defense to protect Terrasen from utter destruction. Yet they soon realize that the many allies they’ve gathered to battle Erawan’s hordes might not be enough to save them. Scattered across the continent and racing against time, Chaol, Manon, and Dorian are forced to forge their own paths to meet their fates. Hanging in the balance is any hope of salvation―and a better world.

And across the sea, his companions unwavering beside him, Rowan hunts to find his captured wife and queen―before she is lost to him forever.

As the threads of fate weave together at last, all must fight, if they are to have a chance at a future. Some bonds will grow even deeper, while others will be severed forever in the explosive final chapter of the Throne of Glass series.

Top Ten Tuesday - Books On My Fall 2018 TBR

This meme is now hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl

So I don't really do TBRs as I'm a mood reader, I want to read what I what when I want, if I'm forcing myself to follow a list.... then I'm more likely not to like what I'm reading, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I'm going to list ten books that I want to read soon.

10) The Chase
Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.

And that his best friend has a crush on me.

And that I just moved in with them.

Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?

He knows where to find me.

9) The Girl in the Steel Corset
In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one... except the "thing" inside her.

5) Seven Black Diamonds
Lilywhite Abernathy is a criminal. Her father’s “unconventional” business has meant a life of tightly held secrets, concealed weaponry, and a strict code. But Lily’s crime isn’t being the daughter of a powerful mob boss. Her guilt lies in the other half of her DNA—the part that can coax ancient rumors from stones and summon fire with a thought. Lily is part fae, which is a crime in her world.

From the time before she was born, a war has been raging between humanity and fae. The Queen of Blood and Rage, ruler of both the Seelie and Unseelie courts, wants to avenge the tragic death of her heir—a death that was the fault of reckless humans.

Lily’s father has shielded her from the repercussions of her ancestry…until she is sent to the prestigious St. Columba’s school, straight into the arms of the Black Diamonds.

Mysterious, glamorous, and bound together in their mission but constantly at odds, Zephyr, Creed, Will, Roan, Violet, and Alkamy are a Sleeper cell of fae, planted in the human world to help destroy it from within. With covers as rock stars and celebrity children, the Black Diamonds carry out the queen’s war against humanity. And unbeknownst to Lilywhite, she’s been chosen to join them.

Now more than ever, Lily’s heritage puts her in peril, and even the romantic attention of the fae singer Creed Morrison isn’t enough to keep Lily from wanting to run back to the safer world of organized crime.
