Forbidden - Book Breakdown

**Starred** in American Library Association BOOKLIST

In the unforgiving Mesopotamian desert where Jayden’s tribe lives, betrothal celebrations abound, and tonight it is Jayden’s turn to be honored. But while this union with Horeb, the son of her tribe’s leader, will bring a life of riches and restore her family’s position within the tribe, it will come at the price of Jayden’s heart.

Then a shadowy boy from the Southern Lands appears. Handsome and mysterious, Kadesh fills Jayden’s heart with a passion she never knew possible. But with Horeb’s increasingly violent threats haunting Jayden’s every move, she knows she must find a way to escape—or die trying.

With a forbidden romance blossoming in her heart and her family’s survival on the line, Jayden must embark on a deadly journey to save the ones she loves—and find a true love for herself.

Book Breakdown

*MINOR SPOILER ALERT*

So I started reading this series because I wanted something different from the normal and I got that. I love the setting and Ive never read a book from the time setting this takes place. I think it's around the time of the Biblical Abraham. I love how I felt right there with Jayden, I felt the fear of traveling through the desert and the sadness of losing her mother.

This book is a romance at it's core and that it mostly what it centers on, which is fine by me. I have two problems with this book, one is the insta-love kind of feel. The love between Jayden and Kadesh just happened so fast and she knows hardly anything about him, except that he's rich and oh so very kind.

The other thing that I didn't like and this is just a silly nitpick as I know that it was important to their survival and so of course everyone would think about them and talk about them... but still.... I'm sure the word camel is in the book just about more than any other word.

I do love the world building in here, I thought it was done nicely and I really felt so bad for Jayden when her sister left her for the temple. What a freaking bitch. I don't even care, I'd be there for my family, no matter what.

I do feel that Jayden had a nice arc, she went from someone who I rolled my eyes at sometimes to someone to has gotten stronger, I hope she continues to grow through the next two books and I hope to get to know ore about Kadesh who seems like a dreamboat. I also hope someone kills Horeb. That guy needs to be gone from the world. It would be a better world without him for sure.

I love the dancing in this novel and how it was a part of their culture. It made me wish I could dance and join along with them. Never have I ever wanted to visit the desert so much then while read ing this book.

I fully recommend this book. Read it now if you haven't, just watch out for the camels... they are everywhere.

50/50 Friday - Book Hype

This fun new meme is hosted by the wonderful Laura from Blue Eye Books and myself. Join us each week for a new topic!

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read.

Topic for the Week
Novel Worth/Not Worth the Hype

So book hype can really help a book as well as hurt the book. I've experienced both myself as I'm sure you guys have. So let's jump into some hyped books!

Worth the Hype
The novel I think is worth the most hype is a book I love so much and it's...
This book is just so amazing and I've never read anything like it! No, I've never read The Night Circus and I have heard they are a lot a like.

Overhyped
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Yep. This book. I do want to say that if you like this book, that's great and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just thought this was rubbish and it does not do the HP world the justice it deserves.

So here is two songs that I'm loving right now.

Shadowhunter Sunday - Ep 10 - By the Light of Dawn

Plot Convince, Dot just happens to be there with a way to destroy the Soul Sword. Jace can't touch the sword! Ugh he would just activate it too. It must be talking about Sebastian.

I love how Simon is trying to talk sense into Valentine. It's cute. Oh Simon... I always feel so bad for him in every single episode. Poor guy can't catch a damn break.

I'm glad everyone banned together instead of killing Clary. I also am okay with how the shape shifting ruin was used this episode. Even though I still hate it.

Izzy is so kick ass even with her withdrawals. I hate how they pinned her down this season, she needs more kickass moments like this.

Speaking of Izzy... I think they are adding an asexual character in this series. Which I'm sure will make so many people happy.

Yes! Simon got to kick ass! I'm so freaking happy about this! It was so amazing to see him!

No! No! Jace activated the sword! I am glad that they didn't change the fact that he has angel blood and not demon. They got Valentine but Sebastian is out there and I'm sure he has it. Though he can't touch it without destroying it.

Simon is now the daylighter!!!! YES! I'm so happy they kept that part. I'm also so happy that Malac had their special moment where they all they say they love each other. It's so nice and I've been waiting for that moment forever.

I love the fight with Valentine and Jace. I'm really getting happy with the fighting scenes in the show.

I am so sick of the vision though... it's just so awful and I'm really sick of seeing it.

Overall, I'm really happy with this episode. It's great and I hate that we have to wait till June to start this again.

Everything Everything - Problematic Book Breakdown

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Book Breakdown

*SPOILER ALERT*

I just want to start off my saying some people have labeled this book problematic. You have been warned. If you want to keep reading then you're my kind of people and let's get to it.

I want to start off by praising the diversity in this book! Our girl Maddy is Asian and African American mixed. I've not seen that done in any books and I loved it! I also love that her nurse Carla is from Mexico. I love the interracial couples in this book. I like seeing more of that. There is also a LGBT guy in this book. So this book gets an A+ in diversity from me.

So Madeline has SCID, which means she is pretty much allergic to the world. So has lived in her white house for 18 years. The only people she sees is her nurse and mother and every once in a full blue moon a tutor.

I know nothing about this disease so I can't speak about how true it was to real life but I do know it seems like the author took liberties at times. There was also many times when I saw the plot twist coming and that plot twist is what bothered a lot of people. It did not bother me as I knew by reading the book jacket that it was going to be like the movie Bubble Boy. I knew this would happen.

My huge grip with this book is the insta-love. That's really it. I loathe insta-love but once I got over that I love the point of this book. Don't be scared to take risks. That's what I got from it at least. We can live in our little bubble or we can step out and take that first step and who knows what we could find.

I love Olly, he's a cute dream boat. I feel so badly for the life he lives with his family and their father. I love how he wasn't perfect and either was Maddy. I think they fit well together. I love how much he really did love her, even if they could never fully be together, he didn't care. That my friends, is real love.

The mother... I don't really know where to start... I mean I can understand not wanting to lose her daughter after losing her husband and son but to do the things she did. Again, no words.

Overall, this is a cute read and I enjoyed it so much. Just look past a few mistakes and the this book is such wonder and it gave me all the feels.

50/50 Friday - Best/Worst Debut Novel

This fun new meme is hosted by Laura from Blue Eye Books and myself.

Topic for the Week
Best/Worst Novel

So this has happened to everyone before. You read a debut novel and you're blown away by how good it is and then on the flip side, you read a debut novel and are very let down by it. So today, I'm going to share my favorite debut novel and the one that was a let down for me.

Best
Everything Everything*
This book got me out of a horrible month long reading slump. I read it all in one day and I loved every part of it. I can't believe this was a debut novel, I thought it was just fantastic.

Worst
Red Queen
This to me just seemed like a lot of other novels smashed into one. I could not get into it and it felt very rushed in some places and thew world building could have been better. So this to me felt like a debut novel.

Top Ten Tuesday - Spring TBR

This meme is hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish

So I'm really bad at doing TBRs, it's why you never seen any TBR posts on my blog. I'm a mood reader, which means, I just read whatever I'm in the mood for. I've tried to actually do the whole TBR jar before and forcing myself to read a book I wasn't in the mood for, put me into a reading slump and also ended up with me never finishing the book and I even unhauled it to Half Price Books.

So instead of a full set TBR, I'm just going to name books that I want to get to soon. So join me and let me know below if any of these are on your list as well.

10) Gemina
I loved the first one and have heard nothing but good things about this one. I've just not cracked it open yet.

9) Unrest
I have never read a more likely to happen in the future novel such as this. It's scary how this could really happen. I loved the first one so much and I can't wait to dive into this one. Even if the cover is pretty awful...

8) Truthwitch
Yeah, I know. Windwitch is already out and I've not even read the first one. I keep meaning to!

7) The Vanishing Throne
I loved the first one and I so I bought this one but for some reason, I've yet to reach for it.

6) The Forgetting
This is a standalone (as far as I know) and it's one that sounded so cool. I bought it and again, I've not read it yet. I plan to get to it soon!

5) City of Heavenly Fire
This is a series that I still haven't wrapped up yet and it sucks because I loved the other books in this series. So yeah, I still need to finish this one.

4) The Great Hunt
This books sounds like it would be right up my alley and I just need to read it now.

3) Bloodines
I know, I know... I loved Vampire Academy and read each book as they came out. Then when this came out, I got so excited and bought every book... but I've never picked them up.

2) Lady Midnight
This will probably makes sense as why I've not read it yet. Since I've not finished Heavenly Fire but I did go out and buy it the day it came out. All this talk about TMI makes me want to go read them now...

1) Empire of Storms
Yes, I know. I need to read this one ASAP but when I found out that the last one isn't coming out till next year... I will read this one. I love the series so much but I don't want to read it and then have to sit and wait for so long, knowing the cliffhanger I do. Yes, I was spoiled.

Manga Monday - Vampire Knight Volume 2

Yuki and Zero go into town to do some shopping for the Headmaster, and they are attacked by a fiendish vampire called a "Level E". Two Night Class students, Takuma Ichijo and Senri Shiki, come just on time and slay it, and invite Yuki and Zero to their dormitory at midnight to find out why they killed one of their own kind...

Manga Breakdown

Yuki now knows that Zero is a vampire and is trying to come to terms with it. They are out shopping when a Level E vampire appears. Two Night Class students show up and kill it, inviting Yuki and Zero to come to the Moon Dorm at midnight for answers. After all vampires just don't kill each other every day.

So they go to the moon dorm at midnight and Yuki gets her answers, Level E vampires are evil and insane. All they care about is blood. Nothing more. She also finds out that Level E vampires used to be human and all turned vampires will turn into a Level E. Just like Zero. He might one day lose his mind and only care for blood. Yuki also finds out that Kaname ordered the students to kill the Level E to keep everyone safe.

Zero gets overpowered by the smell of blood and takes off. Yuki follows him and he almost bites her again but she pulls them into the pool, hoping he comes to his senses. Then Zero's master shows up and puts a gun to his head.

Yuki makes Zero drink his blood. She won't allow him to die or give up till he's reached Level E. He's so upset at himself for needing blood but he drinks from her.

You can see how much Zero and Kanama love Yuki and both want her to be safe. Zero finally decides not to give in and he will keep fighting until the end. The ending is a huge cliffhanger, with Zero's master telling him 'that woman' is still alive. Who is this woman? I'm sure we'll find out in volume 3.

I love this series so much. It's probably my favorite manga series right up there next to Death Note. None will beat these two mangas to me. I'm so excited to read this again so I can finally finish it. The art is just so stunning and perfect, the plot is actually something thought out and not just silliness. It's just the best.

Shadowhunter Sunday - Bound by Blood - Ep 9

So this episode opens up to Clary and Simon making out in his canoe and while I think it's meant to be hot, it's just kind of funny and cute.

Anyone else laughing to death when Simon's shirt hits Jace? I mean that was too funny. I enjoyed it more than I should. I love Simon's lines the most out of any character. Also his line about hiding, makes sense. What should Clary be hiding right where Valentine will look for her?

Why does everyone have to ruin my wonderful Malec moments! Ugh. Also why don't they use cell phones for often? That's a good question.

Note to self: Never take a blood oath, shit happens.

Aldertree is a freak and needs to leave Izzy alone. Every time he's on the screen I get 'rapey' vibes from him. I'm glad Izzy turned him down. Creep.

Maya tried to kill Clary... I sense jealously because she had Simon. Yeah that's another reason she wants her dead, besides the whole saving Downworld kind of thing. Anyone else?

I am falling hard for Raphael and I love the way he and Izzy are together. Is it weird that I hope they get together? Even if it's only for a little while...

Poor Maya as much as I hate what she did, I still feel bad for her.

I kind of hate when they do things like this, talking about Clary and her might be death. They would never kill off Clary, we'd all be outraged and quit watching the show, which means no money for them. So it's hard for me to feel the danger level.

I do love the scene with Clary and Simon on the van, it was so heartfelt and touching.

Now Alec knows about Izzy. Shit is going down!

Jace found Valentine, more shit is going down!

The little girl playing Madzie is adorable! I just had to point that out. Such cute big eyes! I'm a sucker for big eyes.

The vampire and the Shadowhunter. I hope this happens, Izzy and Raphael are cute together.

I don't like how Izzy is treating Alec, I really want to smack some sense into her. This is why you don't do drugs kids. It makes you stupid. and hurts the ones closet to you.

Holy Shit, it's going down again! Clary is now with Valentine.

Simon is sexy when he's angry. I am really starting to like him more and more.

I love Alec! He's so kickass and badass and just I'm at a loss for words with how awesome he is. Finally someone put Aldertree in his place! YES!!!! That was my favorite scene in the whole episode.

I wonder, now that Valentine has Simon if this is where the boat stuff will happen and he'll be a daywalker soon. That would be nice but the show doesn't follow the books well, so I've no idea.

Ruin and Rising - Review

The capital has fallen.

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

Book Breakdown

*SPOILERS*

No! No! NO! Why does she lose her powers? Why does she get with Mal? Why does the Darkling have to die?! I mean the prince was the best choice out of the two left even though I'm one of those weird people that loved the Darkling and wanted her with him.

I think he could have changed! He was just a lonely boy that no one understood. I felt my heart being ripped out when he died. I held out hope this whole time that Alina would come to her senses and go with him or the prince but no. No! The Darkling is just like her, he understands her and she could really help him. She could have at least been his friend, not killed him.

I am so glad the prince was saved though. He's swoon worthy in his own right and still way better than Mal. Can you tell I'm bitter about Mal yet? I think that the prince will make the best king. I think he's the only one that would make a great ruler actually. I started to think he was a goner and was worried who would take the throne.

I loved this series and I'm glad that peace is back to the land and the ending wrapped up nicely I guess. I just hate the choices she made, she could have made a difference in the kingdom and instead runs off to be with Mal.... If you like Mal and like that she ended up with him than I'm happy for you but I didn't like it. How many more times will I say that? No more I promise.

I just really wish that she had stayed with the prince and helped him, I think that would have been a better ending and I think it would have made more sense, she could really help him and they'd do great things together. I'm at least glad she's happy though. She deserves happiness after all the crap she went through.

50/50 Friday - Best/Worst Royal Character

This new meme is hosted by myself and the wonderful Laura from Blue Eye Books.

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read.

Topic for the Week
Best/Worst Royal Character
They can be king or queen and either good or evil

Best
So I think the best kingly character would have to be the one and only, the wonderful, sexy, perfect, and giving....

I mean he goes through so much for his subjects and those he loves, he rules with a kind heart. He's also not scared to be the bad guy in order to save this people. He's given up so much that they could all be safe from the evil trying to hurt them all. I mean, could this spot go to anyone else? Nope!

Worst
So for the worst it would have to be... Queen Levana. I will say that all I read was Cinder but she just seems like every other villian in how she wants to take over the world. Maybe she's more complex than that and I just haven't gotten there yet. But yeah, the worst.
